After 5 seasons of making snow by Halloween, the trolls had gotten used to ropes spinning Nov 1st. So, humans and trolls alike were stunned that 3 weeks into November, the hills were still brown and the lifts quiet. That all changed on a late Thursday night last week when snow trolls found agreeable temps and white flake began to cover the haugen.
Day One – The cannons blew Thursday night thru Saturday morning. White covered a long chair-serviced run, and a small rope-fed hill. On this hill, Troll’s park crew began to fill the first canvas of the season, building a steel heavy set in about 2 hours that managed to absorb the abuse of over 500 park-hungry humans. About a dozen features were scattered all over Tomtebakken, along with little rails and boxes stuck anywhere they would fit that has a bit of pitch, and dusting of snow. The locals came out heavy and familiar faces filled the rope. Day one was an absolute zoo. Rail Jedi Cody Beiersdorf was in attendance, though no legendary near-decapitations took place. (google that!). Watched Krister Ralles drop hammers all day along with Park Crew monsters Kyle K, Jeffy Gabrick, Tony Wagner, Tanner Seymour, Logan Herber, Ollie Dixon and more. Day one was exhausting… and then we got word… Valhalla has snow!
Day Two – If you’ve ever seen an edit out of Troll, it was probably set in Valhalla. The high-speed rope-fed patch of white madness is the backdrop to the biggest steel builds on the haugen, and the park lads has just over 3 hours to fill it with the features they had staged the night before. Ollie got to work on a fast-groomed kicker, adding side hits and strange tranny while the rest of the boys set out to fill Valhalla with a respectable set. At the risk of sounding a bit proud, I surveyed the results expecting to see a solid ‘pre-season’ park, and was greeted by a legit blue & yellow arsenal you might see in the middle of the season after a ton of snow and time had made dropping a full set possible. It was nuts, and so was the shred. Erik Ralles, blood kin to Midwest heavy Krister Ralles, was out behind the lens snapping the action and shared a handful of memories. Windell’s alum/Park Crew add-on Ben McCabe got the footy. Like anything, to really feel it, you gotta be here! Im super hyped to have humans back on the haugen! Bring on the cold! Bring on the snow!
